The first SAP Certified Translation Partner in Russia

The first pilot project between the PROMT Translation Department and SAP Language Services, translation of SAP R/3 system training modules from English into Russian, began in 2000. 

The pilot project made use of translation not only with TRADOS Translation Memory (already in use by SAP Language Services (SLS)), but also the PROMT machine translation system, customized specifically for this project. Customization of the system (including the creation of more than 30 specialized dictionaries for different applications, machine translation quality testing, etc.) was undertaken by experts of SLS and the PROMT Translation Department, who worked in close cooperation.

From the outset it was clear that the integration of customized PROMT MT and TRADOS TM systems produced excellent results: improvement in the translators' performance, instant processing of documents with extensive formatting and complex structures, and consistent use of terminology by all translators in the project group.

Between 2000 and 2008, the PROMT Translation Department has prepared English-Russian translation for close to 200,000 pages. Additionally, in 2004, the department launched an online translation from German into Russian for SAP systems interface and help documentation, enabling localization activities to be conducted in real time.

In 2005, SAP announced certification procedures for its translation partners and verify compliance of their technology and resource management processes with SAP Language Services requirements.

Based on results from previous projects and the translation audit, the PROMT Translation Department was named Certified SAP Translation Partner for German/English – Russian language combinations.
