Lithuanian free online translation service

The EU government has sponsored a project for fast integration of this new EU member country. PROMT won the contract to develop an online translation service to translate texts from English to Lithuanian and vice versa. This project illustrates the scalability of the PROMT translation engine into other languages not currently supported by the commercial @promt software range.

State Organization for Standards and Metrics

One of Gosstandart (State Organization for Standards and Metrics) of Russia’s most important projects has been the translation of international (ISO) and Russian (GOST) standard texts and the creation of a standard text database. This project was created at the request of Global Management and Consulting Services (GMCS) of the United States in 1999 and financed by the World Bank.

PROMT developed the translation solution for the project based on its machine translation technologies and built a complete new dictionary set. The summary dictionaries volume has in excess of 1.5 million entries. The project is unique in that the huge number of pages was completely translated by PROMT software: 100,000 pages across different standard fields.

Similar projects for machine translation (MT) systems adaptation and large industrial translation solutions have been implemented for NASA, Volvo Car International, and other global organizations.

SAP

PROMT has a long-standing cooperative agreement with SAP AG (Germany) covering technical documentation translation. PROMT has completed the translation of training materials for SAP R/3 components from English to Russian to a total translated documentation volume of close to 5,000 pages.

The project was implemented using computer industry translation technology developed by PROMT. The key feature of the technology is the integration of PROMT’s cutting-edge linguistic solutions into the organization’s automated technology processes. This technology minimizes manual editing and translation and increases translation quality and speed. In parallel with the document processing, PROMT experts have adapted more than 30 dictionaries to provide better translation quality for SAP.

Microsoft

Access to information is crucial for any software developer or IT engineer. In order to facilitate such access, Microsoft developed and employed the MSDN (Microsoft Development Network) library. It contains an enormous volume of industry-specific information using special terminology. Despite the innovative nature of this service, many IT professionals lack the knowledge of the original library language, which is, of course, English. PROMT has developed a fully customized system for the automatic translation of MSDN materials, leveraging.NET technology and Translation Memory database.

Xerox

Every global company faces the problem of localizing information when entering a new market. Advertising, marketing, technical, knowledgebase materials – everything needs to be translated into a variety of languages. Ever-shorter product lifecycles mean that localization must be undertaken quickly. Xerox selected PROMT machine translation software as the tool to support the organization’s corporate localization goals. PROMT developed a special dictionary for Xerox that supports both a standardized terminology and a high translation quality. According to feedback from the company, translation costs decreased by 40% while localization speed increased dramatically.

Cell network providers

Implementation of machine translation service for users of cell phone networks is a good example of how the technology is penetrating the everyday life of ordinary people. In close cooperation with mobile operators such as Megafon (the third largest in Russia), Skylink (the fourth largest in Russia) and others, PROMT offers SMS translation, developed on an ASP model where translations are made on one of the cell phone company’s web servers. This service turns an ordinary mobile GSM / CDMA phone into a pocket dictionary and translator.

PROMT’s ability to customize translation systems has led to a number of other successful projects, including:
