Solution

For the PTS translation functions embedding, proceed as follows:

  1. In your browser, open the application server web page.
  2. Go to the Plug-ins -> Installation section.
  3. Read the description of the PTS plug-ins and click the «Load the plug-ins installer» link to load the plug-ins installer.
  4. Launch the plug-ins installer. Plug-ins will be automatically embedded into supported applications.
  5. In supported applications, the connection to the PTS server shall be set up. To do this, select Parameters -> Connection setup on the PROMT Translator (PTS) toolbar of the application and copy the server connection string from the Plug-ins -> Installation section (item 3 b) of the application server web interface.

You can automate the PTS plug-ins installation to workstations, for example, on enterprise-scale networks.

This section describes the procedure of mass installation of PTS plug-ins using the Active Directory group policy.

Solution

To install the PTS plug-ins using the Active Directory group policy, proceed as follows:

  1. Save the self-unpacking archive containing a distribution kit of the PTS plug-ins from the Plug-ins->Installation section of the application server web page.
  2. Extract the self-unpacking archive contents to a shared directory.
  3. Open the Group Policy Management console (Run->gpmc.msc).
  4. Create a new object of the group policy and open it for editing.
  5. In the group policy editor, select Computer Configuration->Windows Settings->Scripts (Startup/Shutdown), then open the Startup Properties window.
  6. In the Script Name: box of the Add a Script window, specify the UNC path to the setup.exe file of the PTS plug-ins installer (the path looks like that: \\server_name\share_name\setup.exe).
  7. In the Script Parameters: box of the Add a Script window, set installation parameters as required:
    • /Llanguage_code (code of the interface language: 1033 – English, 1049 – Russian, 1031 - German...)
    • /S /v/qn (silent installation, no messages displayed)
    • /S /v/qb (only the progress bar is displayed during installation)
    Example:

    \\server_name\share_name\setup.exe /L1033 /S /v/qn

    PTS plug-ins will be installed silently with English as the interface language
  8. Assign the created group policy object to the appropriate enterprise department.

After the specified procedures are completed, the PTS plug-ins will be installed automatically on the department workstations that can be accessed via the network.

After you installed the PTS plug-ins, it is recommended to use the suggested method to automate the PTS plug-ins setup.

In enterprise-scale networks, it is convenient to install and configure PTS plug-ins on workstations automatically.

The procedure for mass installation of PTS plug-ins using the Active Directory group policy is provided in section [KB25003] Installing the PTS Plug-ins to workstations using the Active Directory group policy.

This section describes the procedure for automation of the process of configuring PTS plug-ins to use the required PTS server connection string after plug-ins installation. Thus the users will be able to use plug-ins right away, without needing to enter the connection string manually and to restart the application.

Solution

To configure PTS plug-ins using the Active Directory group policy, proceed as follows:

  1. Save the archive containing the JScript file using the following link on our web site - plugincfg.zip.
  2. Extract the archive contents to a shared directory.
  3. Open the Group Policy Management console (Run->gpmc.msc).
  4. Create a new object of the group policy and open it for editing.
  5. In the group policy object editor, select User Configuration->Windows Settings->Scripts (Logon/Logoff), then open the Logon Properties window.
  6. In the Script Name box of the Add a Script window, enter the UNC path to the plugincfg.js file (the path looks like that: \\server_name\share_name\plugincfg.js).
  7. In the Script Parameters box of the Add a Script window, set the necessary installation parameters (the parameters are entered without slashes, using spaces):
    • PTS server name or PTS server IP address (for example, "server" or 192.168.1.85)
    • PTS application server virtual directory name (for example, "twsas")
  8. Assign the created group policy object to the appropriate enterprise department.
After the specified actions are performed, the PTS plug-ins connection parameters will be configured automatically when the user logs in using his/her account.

Translation functions are embedded into Adobe Reader X, but the address of the PTS translation server is not saved.

Solution
Disable the protected mode at starting Adobe Reader X:

  1. Undo the embedding of translation functions into Adobe Reader X: launch «PROMT Plug-ins Manager» and uncheck the box next to Adobe Reader 10.
  2. Launch Adobe Reader X.
  3. In the Edit menu, select Preferences, go to General section and uncheck the box next to Enable Protected Mode at startup.
  4. Close Adobe Reader X.
  5. Embed translation functions into Adobe Reader X: launch «PROMT Plug-ins Manager» and check the box next to Adobe Reader 10.
  6. Customize the connection to the PTS server: Plug-Ins -> Options.

Solution
To embed translation functions into Mozilla Firefox perform the following steps:
  1. Close Mozilla Firefox.
  2. Launch PROMT Plug-ins Manager and check the box next to PROMT for Mozilla Firefox.
    • If PROMT for Mozilla Firefox isn't displayed in the PROMT Plug-ins Manager application, install the free plugin update: download and launch the setup.exe file.

  3. Launch Mozilla Firefox and update it to the current version - Mozilla Firefox 24.0. Read more about updating your browser here: Update Firefox to the latest version.
  4. Update PROMT plugin: in Firefox menu open Add-ons and you will see a list of your plug-ins in the opened tab.
  5. In the upper part of the page with plug-ins click on the button with "gear" icon and select Check for updates.
  6. After plug-in is updated, browser will ask you to restart the program and PROMT Translator toolbar will appear.
Note
The search for an updated version of PTS plug-in is also performed during the installation of new version of Mozilla Firefox. If the new version of PTS plug-in is available when new version of Firefox is installed then it will be automatically downloaded by Firefox installer.

  3. After downloading, run the file promt18_patch
  4. Run sequentially all the steps suggested by the installer
  5. To check the work PROMT.

Solution:
To install the PROMT Agent using the Active Directory group policy, perform the following actions:
  1. Save the self-unpacking archive containing the PROMT Agent distribution kit from the PROMT Agent section of the application server web page.
  2. Extract the self-unpacking archive contents to a shared directory using any archive program, for example WinRAR or 7-Zip.
  3. Open the Group Policy Management console: Execute->gpmc.msc
  4. Create a new object of the group policy and open it for editing.
  5. In the group policy editor open the Computer Configuration-> Windows Settings-> Scripts (Startup/Shutdown) section. Open Startup Properties window.

For correct functioning of the PROMT program, the .NET Framework 3.5 component should be set which is not a part of Windows 8 and requires separate installation before installation of PROMT translator.

Solution 1
Use the Helper.exe utility. Download the utility from the specified link and run it. The result of correct work of this utility is the installed .NET Framework 3.5 component in the Windows 8 environment.

Note the following:
  • The utility works in the background, no progress bar is displayed, and there is no message indicating the successful completion of its work.
  • The "Program Compatibility Assistant" window can appear after the utility finises, meanwhile the .NET Framework 3.5 component will be set correctly.
  • In case of error, the corresponding message with error code is displayed.
You should check the result of work of the utility. For this purpose, open the list of Windows components (Control Panel - Add or Remove Programs - Add or Remove Windows Components) and make sure that the .NET Framework 3.5 component is enabled.

Solution

You need administrator rights to install collections.
Before installing a collection of dictionaries, quit all running applications of the PROMT suite, as well as any Windows applications that contain PROMT plug-ins.
To install an entire collection or separate dictionaries from it, click Install in the PROMT Dictionaries window in the PROMT Master / PROMT Lite application.
Follow the instructions in the installation wizard:
  1. Indicate the path to the folder with files.
    See the article How to indicate the path to the specialized dictionaries installation files correctly?
  2. Enter your license number.
  3. Choose the desired collection.
    When installing collections, the accompanying license number allows you to install dictionaries from a single collection on one computer. During the installation, the selected collection will be activated: How to activate a PROMT dictionary collection? After activation, you will be able to install dictionaries only from this collection. To install dictionaries from another collection, you will need to purchase a separate license number.
  4. Confirm your installation and activation of the selected collection.
  5. Carefully read activation rules. You may need the information shown in this step later for manual activation.

The specialized dictionaries collections can be installed in two ways: either by launching the distribution containing the collections files or by launching the Installation Wizard via the PROMT program.

In order to perform the installation by launching the distribution, it is necessary to do the following:
  1. Download the distribution using the link you received after purchasing the product;
  2. Launch the downloaded file (for example, P19_DictCollections_DC19_0001.exe);
  3. When you install the specialized dictionaries by launching this file, the path to the installation files will be indicated automatically.
    By default the dictionaries collections are extracted into the following folder: C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\Temp\PROMT Dictionary Collections.
    However, some folders may be hidden. To display hidden files and folders follow the instructions: Show hidden files
  4. If the path is not indicated automatically, follow the instructions below.


If you perform the installation by launching the Installation Wizard via the PROMT program, it is necessary to do the following:
  1. Download the distribution using the link you received after purchasing the product;
  2. Unzip the downloaded file (P19_DictCollections_DC19_0001.exe) using any file archiver installed on your computer (for example, WinRar or 7-zip). In order to do this:
    • right-click the file;
    • point to the name of the archiver (for example, 7-Zip);
    • choose "Extract files..." from the drop-down box;
    • indicate the path to the folder where you would like to store the installation files, for example, C:\Users\<user name>\Downloads\ to extract files to the "Downloads" folder;
    • save the indicated path;
    • go to the folder you indicated;
    • go to the "P19_DictCollections_DC19_0001/Dicts" folder;
    • copy the path to the current folder.

Activation is necessary to protect the PROMT software against piracy and ensure its validity. During the activation procedure, the product license number is verified as being valid and used on a number of computers that does not exceed the number allowed by the license.
Activation is easy and can be performed via the Internet or by telephone. Generally, you need to activate your product only once for the whole software usage period. In some cases, for example, after software reinstallation, you will have to repeat the software activation procedure.
When the software is activated via the Internet, data is transferred between the user's computer and the PROMT activation server. When the software is activated by telephone, the user provides the PROMT technical support service with the product data displayed in the PROMT activation wizard and then obtains the activation code from PROMT. Information transferred and obtained during the process is used for activation purposes only. Information collected during activation is not used for user identity determination.

When launching a PROMT application, the following message appears: "Attention! A violation of your license agreement is found. Further work with this program is impossible".

Cause
Possible causes:
  • PROMT software distributed on CD or DVD is protected against illegal reproduction. This error may occur in case of installing the PROMT system from a non-original CD or DVD (distribution kit from which the installation was performed had been previously copied on the hard disk or flash).
  • The optical drive could not read correctly the information of licence protection from a compact disk because of deterioration of the reading device or defect of a surface of the compact disk.
  • You are using an illegal (unlicensed) copy of the software.
Solution
Ensure you are using a licensed copy and reinstall the PROMT software from the original CD or DVD. If you install the PROMT product from the distribution kit copied from a licenced compact disk, the product will be installed in the mode of infringement of licence protection.

Availability of an optical disk drive is the system requirement of PROMT products which are distributed on compact disks.

If the optical disk drive is not available, the PROMT product can be installed from an external optical disk drive or from a network disk which is in the general access at any other workstation (server).

Solution

  3. After downloading, run the k9.reg file
  4. Agree to make changes to the register.

  4. Run sequentially all the steps suggested by the installer
  5. To check the work PROMT.

Plug-ins Manager
Translation functions can be embedded using the following application:
  • PROMT 8-8.5: PROMT Extensions Manager (Start -> Programs -> PROMT -> PROMT Extensions Manager)
In this article, the above application is referred to as PROMT Plug-ins Manager.

Cause 1
Translation functions are not embedded into Microsoft Office.

Solution 1
To embed translation functions into Microsoft Office:
  1. Close all windows of Microsoft Office applications.
  2. Launch PROMT Plug-ins Manager and check the box next to Microsoft Office.
  3. Launch a Microsoft Office application, for example Word.
  4. The PROMT Translator tab with translation functions will appear in the Microsoft Office application ribbon.

Translation functions are embedded into Microsoft Office, but the PROMT add-in is disabled in Microsoft Office.

Solution 2
To enable the PROMT add-in in Microsoft Office (e.g. Microsoft Word):
  1. In Microsoft Word, select Office (the round button in the upper left corner) -> Word Options. Note: In Outlook, select Tools -> Trust Center.
  2. Select Add-Ins and make sure that the PROMT for Microsoft Office add-in is not included in the Disabled Application Add-ins group.
  3. If the PROMT add-in is listed among disabled add-ins, select Disabled Items in the Manage drop-down list and click Go.
  4. In the Disabled Items window, select PROMT for Microsoft Office and click Enable, then click Close.
  5. Restart Microsoft Word.
  6. The PROMT Translator tab with translation functions will appear in the Microsoft Office application ribbon.
Cause 3
Translation functions are embedded into Microsoft Office, but the PROMT add-in is inactive in Microsoft Office or missing permissions to run.

Solution 3
To activate the PROMT add-in in Microsoft Office (e.g. Microsoft Word) and add permissions to run:
  1. In Microsoft Word, select Office (the round button in the upper left corner) -> Word Options. Note: In Outlook, select Tools -> Trust Center.
  2. Select Add-Ins and make sure that the PROMT for Microsoft Office add-in is not included in the Inactive Application Add-ins group.
  3. If the PROMT add-in is among inactive add-ins, quit Word.
  4. Undo embedding of translation functions into Microsoft Office. To do this, launch PROMT Plug-ins Manager and uncheck all boxes next to Microsoft Office.
  5. Download the caspol.zip archive, extract the caspol.js file and run it. The execution result must be "OK". If you get another result, check whether caspol.js is launched with administrator's rights.
  6. Embed translation functions into Microsoft Office. To do this, launch PROMT Plug-ins Manager and check the boxes next to Microsoft Office.
  7. Launch Microsoft Word.
  8. The PROMT Translator tab with translation functions will appear in the Microsoft Office application ribbon.
Cause 4
The .NET Programmability Support component required by PROMT add-ins is not installed in Microsoft Office.

Solution 4
  1. Close all running programs.
  2. On the Windows Control Panel, open the list of installed Windows programs, select Microsoft Office and click Change.
  3. In the Microsoft Office installer, check the box next to the "Add or Remove Components" option and click Next.
  4. In the Microsoft Office component tree, open the node of each Office application and select .NET Programmability Support component installation.
  5. Wait for completion of Microsoft Office installation.
  6. Launch PROMT Plug-ins Manager and make sure that checkboxes next to Microsoft Office applications have been selected.
  7. The PROMT Translator tab with translation functions will appear in the Microsoft Office application ribbon.
Cause 5
The Visual Studio 2005 Tools for Office Second Edition Runtime (VSTOR) component required by PROMT extensions is not installed or installed incorrectly.

Solution 5
Install (reinstall) Visual Studio 2005 Tools for Office Second Edition Runtime:
  1. Download the VSTO2005SE.zip archive.
  2. Extract vstor.exe from the archive, run it and follow the installer instructions.
Cause 6
Probably, Microsoft Office 2007 installation is damaged.

Solution 6
Install (restore) Microsoft Office 2007:
  • In Windows XP: launch Start -> Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs, find Microsoft Office 2007, click Change, and choose Repair in the Microsoft Office installation window.
  • In Windows Vista/7: launch Start -> Control Panel -> Programs, find Microsoft Office 2007, select Change in the context menu, and choose Repair in the Microsoft Office installation window.

Solution 2
  1. Close all windows of Microsoft Office applications.
  2. Download the SmartoolXSupport.exe program and run it. The IssuesFixerLog_”date”_”time”.log file will be created, which allows to analyse the result.

  3. Note: SmartoolXSupport is a universal program for solving the problem of embedding translation functions which automatically diagnoses and solves the problems.

  4. Launch a Microsoft Office application, for example Word.
  5. The PROMT Translator tab with translation functions will appear in the Microsoft Office application ribbon.

Cause 3
Translation functions are embedded into Microsoft Office, but the PROMT add-in is disabled in Microsoft Office.

Solution 3
To enable the PROMT add-in in Microsoft Office (e.g. Microsoft Word):
  1. In Microsoft Word, select Office (the round button in the upper left corner) -> Word Options. Note: In Outlook, select Tools -> Trust Center.
  2. Select Add-Ins and make sure that the PROMT for Microsoft Office add-in is not included in the Disabled Application Add-ins group.
  3. If the PROMT add-in is listed among disabled add-ins, select Disabled Items in the Manage drop-down list and click Go.
  4. In the Disabled Items window, select PROMT for Microsoft Office and click Enable, then click Close.
  5. Restart Microsoft Word.
  6. The PROMT Translator tab with translation functions will appear in the Microsoft Office application ribbon.
Cause 4
Translation functions are embedded into Microsoft Office, but the PROMT add-in is inactive in Microsoft Office or missing permissions to run.

Solution 4
To activate the PROMT add-in in Microsoft Office (e.g. Microsoft Word) and add permissions to run:
  1. In Microsoft Word, select Office (the round button in the upper left corner) -> Word Options. Note: In Outlook, select Tools -> Trust Center.
  2. Select Add-Ins and make sure that the PROMT for Microsoft Office add-in is not included in the Inactive Application Add-ins group.
  3. If the PROMT add-in is among inactive add-ins, quit Word.
  4. Undo embedding of translation functions into Microsoft Office. To do this, launch PROMT Plug-ins Manager and uncheck all boxes next to Microsoft Office.
  5. Download the caspol.zip archive, extract the caspol.js file and run it. The execution result must be "OK". If you get another result, check whether caspol.js is launched with administrator's rights.
  6. Embed translation functions into Microsoft Office. To do this, launch PROMT Plug-ins Manager and check the boxes next to Microsoft Office.
  7. Launch Microsoft Word.
  8. The PROMT Translator tab with translation functions will appear in the Microsoft Office application ribbon.
Cause 5
The .NET Programmability Support component required by PROMT add-ins is not installed in Microsoft Office.

Solution 5
  1. Close all running programs.
  2. On the Windows Control Panel, open the list of installed Windows programs, select Microsoft Office and click Change.
  3. In the Microsoft Office installer, check the box next to the "Add or Remove Components" option and click Next.
  4. In the Microsoft Office component tree, open the node of each Office application and select .NET Programmability Support component installation.
  5. Wait for completion of Microsoft Office installation.
  6. Launch PROMT Plug-ins Manager and make sure that checkboxes next to Microsoft Office applications have been selected.
  7. The PROMT Translator tab with translation functions will appear in the Microsoft Office application ribbon.
Cause 6
Another PROMT 9.0 product (for example, Trial or Try&Buy version) was previously installed on this computer.

  3. Download the INTEROP.zip archive, extract the Interop.PROMTPROLib.dll file into the folder with installed Microsoft Office translation extension (for example, C:\Program Files\PRMT9\SMARTOOLX).
  4. Launch PROMT Plug-ins Manager and check the box next to Microsoft Office.
  5. Launch a Microsoft Office application, for example Word.
  6. The PROMT Translator tab with translation functions will appear in the Microsoft Office application ribbon.
Cause 7
The Visual Studio 2005 Tools for Office Second Edition Runtime (VSTOR) component required by PROMT extensions is not installed or installed incorrectly.

Solution 7
Install (reinstall) Visual Studio 2005 Tools for Office Second Edition Runtime:
  1. Download the VSTO2005SE.zip archive.
  2. Extract vstor.exe from the archive, run it and follow the installer instructions.
Cause 8
Probably, Microsoft Office 2007/2010 installation is damaged.

Install (restore) Microsoft Office 2007/2010:
  • In Windows XP: launch Start -> Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs, find Microsoft Office 2007/2010, click Change, and choose Repair in the Microsoft Office installation window.

Problem
The PROMT Translator tab with translation functions is not displayed in Microsoft Office 2007-2016 applications. Microsoft Office applications with embedded PROMT Translator functions might hang or abort during launching. To eliminate this problem, try one of solutions provided below. In case of success, you do not need to try other solutions.

Plug-ins Manager
Translation functions can be embedded using the following application:
  • PROMT Plug-ins Manager (Start -> Programs -> PROMT -> Your PROMT Product -> Launch Applications -> PROMT Plug-ins Manager)


Cause 1
Translation functions are not embedded into Microsoft Office.

Solution 1
To embed translation functions into Microsoft Office:
  1. Close all windows of Microsoft Office applications.
  2. Launch PROMT Plug-ins Manager and check the box next to Microsoft Office.
  3. Launch a Microsoft Office application, for example Word.
  4. The PROMT Translator tab with translation functions will appear in the Microsoft Office application ribbon.

  2. Download the SmartoolXSupport.exe program and run it. The IssuesFixerLog_”date”_”time”.log file will be created, which allows to analyse the result.

  3. Note: SmartoolXSupport is a universal program for solving the problem of embedding translation functions which automatically diagnoses and solves the problems.

  4. Launch a Microsoft Office application, for example Word.
  5. The PROMT Translator tab with translation functions will appear in the Microsoft Office application ribbon.

  1. In Internet Explorer, select View -> Toolbars.
  2. Check the box next to PROMT Translator.
  3. In the Internet Explorer toolbar area, the PROMT Translator toolbar will appear containing the translation functions.
Cause 3
Translation functions are embedded into Internet Explorer, but the PROMT add-in is disabled in Internet Explorer.

Solution 3
To enable PROMT add-ins in Internet Explorer (by the example of Internet Explorer 8):
  1. In Internet Explorer, select Tools -> Manage Add-ons.
  2. Make sure to enable all add-ins in the PROMT group:

  1. In Internet Explorer, select Tools -> Internet Options.
  2. In the Advanced tab, check the box next to "Enable third-party browser extensions" in the Browsing group.
  3. Restart Internet Explorer.
  4. In the Internet Explorer toolbar area, the PROMT Translator toolbar will appear containing the translation functions.
Cause 5
There is a conflict between the PROMT add-in and other add-ins in Internet Explorer.

Solution 5
Disable Internet Explorer add-ins conflicting with the PROMT add-in (by the example of Internet Explorer 8):
  1. In Internet Explorer, select Tools -> Manage Add-ons.
  2. Disable all add-ins except PROMT add-ins.
  3. Make sure that all PROMT add-ins have the Enabled status:
    • PROMT Translator
    • PROMT IE Helper
    • Text translation
  4. Restart Internet Explorer.
  5. In the Internet Explorer toolbar area, the PROMT Translator toolbar will appear containing the translation functions.
If PROMT Translator functions are available in Internet Explorer upon restart, you can enable the disabled add-ins one-by-one until you reveal the add-in that caused the conflict.
After enabling of each add-in, restart Internet Explorer and make sure that PROMT functions are still available in Internet Explorer.

Cause 6
You are using the 64-bit version of Internet Explorer, but PROMT currently supports embeding the translation functions only into the 32-bit versions of Internet Explorer.
To know what version of Internet Explorer you are using, open the About Internet Explorer window (Help -> About Internet Explorer). For the 64-bit version this window contains the "64-bit Edition" string.

Solution 6
Launch the 32-bit version of Internet Explorer. The shortcut of the 32-bit version of Internet Explorer is called Internet Explorer in the Windows start menu and it does not contain the "(64-bit)" ending.

Solution
To embed translation functions into Mozilla Firefox perform the following steps:
  1. Close Mozilla Firefox.
  2. Launch PROMT Plug-ins Manager and check the box next to PROMT for Mozilla Firefox.
    • If PROMT for Mozilla Firefox isn't displayed in the PROMT Plug-ins Manager application, install the free plugin update: download and launch the setup.exe file.

  3. Launch Mozilla Firefox and update it to the current version - Mozilla Firefox 24.0. Read more about updating your browser here: Update Firefox to the latest version.
  4. Update PROMT plugin: in Firefox menu open Add-ons and you will see a list of your plug-ins in the opened tab.
  5. In the upper part of the page with plug-ins click on the button with "gear" icon and select Check for updates.
  6. After plug-in is updated, browser will ask you to restart the program and PROMT Translator toolbar will appear.
Note
The search for an updated version of plug-in is also performed during the installation of new version of Mozilla Firefox. If the new version of PROMT plug-in is available when new version of Firefox is installed then it will be automatically downloaded by Firefox installer.

Solution

PROMT Translator functions are unavailable in Skype 4.x. To eliminate this problem, try one of solutions provided below. In case of success, you do not need to try other solutions.

Cause 1
To use translation functions in Skype, you have to start Skype using the PROMT for Skype application.

Solution 1
To launch PROMT for Skype:
  1. Launch your PROMT product (Start -> Programs -> PROMT -> Your PROMT 9 Product).
  2. Select Translate -> Translate Instant Messages.
  3. Select Skype in the drop-down list and click Run.
  4. When you run PROMT for Skype for the first time, Skype will suggest authorizing the PROMT plug-in: "PromtSkype.exe wants to use Skype". Click Allow access in the Skype window.
  5. PROMT Translator commands will be available in the Extras menu of the Skype message box.
Cause 2
You use Skype business version or other Skype version which does not include a plug-ins manager.

Solution 2
Install a Skype version containing the Plugin (Extras) Manager:
  1. Check whether the Plugin Manager folder in the Skype installation folder (for example, C:\Program Files\Skype) exists.
  2. If the Plugin Manager folder is missing, download the complete Skype version and reinstall Skype.
  3. Make sure that the Plugin Manager folder has appeared in the Skype installation folder.

After launching PROMT Editor Lite, the application window does not appear on the screen.

Cause
The program is running, but its window is minimized to an icon on the Windows system tray (the area near the system clock) according to the application setup.

Problem
The "Application is already started" error message appears when the program is started.

Cause
This error can occur on pocket PCs with an OEM user interface shell which is started during device boot-up as a Windows Mobile application and completely replaces the standard Windows Mobile user interface. An example of OEM shell is TouchFlo on HTC devices.

Solution
Replace the executable file TrayTranslator.exe. To do this, either replace the installed file directly on the pocket PC or replace the file in the program distribution folder on the desktop PC and reinstall the program on the pocket PC.
Before using any method, download the pm7_fix_02.zip archive to the desktop computer and extract the TrayTranslator.exe file.

The first method (replace the file directly on the pocket PC):
  1. On the pocket PC, quit all PROMT applications using the running programs manager.
  2. Connect the pocket PC to the desktop computer (PC).
  3. From the PC, replace the TrayTranslator.exe file in the program installation folder on the pocket PC, for example, \Program Files\PROMT. To do this, you can use a file explorer which is included, for example, into the ActiveSync synchronization software. On some pocket PC models, you can use Windows Explorer for this purpose.
  4. Launch PROMT Translator on the pocket PC.

The second method (replace the file in the distribution folder and reinstall the product on the pocket PC):
  1. Connect the pocket PC to the desktop computer (PC).
  2. Run the product installer on the PC and uninstall PROMT Mobile 7 on the pocket PC.
  3. Save PROMT Mobile 7 distribution files to the hard disk:
    • For CD-based products: save the CD content to a temporary folder on the computer hard disk.
    • For products in the form of self-extracting archive: run WinZip or WinRar, open the PROMT Mobile 7 distribution file in the archiver and extract its content to a temporary folder on the computer hard disk.
  4. Overwrite the TrayTranslator.exe file to the distribution folder on the hard disk, for example, \RUSSIAN\PM7\ERRE\Pocket or \RUSSIAN\PM7\Giant\Pocket.
  5. Install PROMT Mobile 7 from the updated distribution folder stored on the PC hard disk.
  6. Launch PROMT Translator on the pocket PC.

  • The license file was not loaded during initial server setup. Each PROMT NET delivery contains a license file which stores license restrictions according to your PROMT NET licensing agreement. The license file must be loaded to the PROMT NET server during PROMT NET server initial setup.
Solution
  1. In PROMT NET User Manager, check whether the user has permissions to run this application.
  2. Load the license file to the PROMT NET server using PROMT NET License Manager.

Problem
When launching a PROMT NET application, the following error message appears: "Error occurred while initializing the kernel of translation (0x80070721)".

Cause
Possible causes:
  • An incorrect PROMT NET server name is specified in the Server Login window.
  • The correct IP address of the PROMT NET server cannot be derived from its name due to, for example, changes in the server name or server IP address, or because of DNS faults.
  • There is no registration of the Service Principal Name for the account of the PROMT effective user – only for ÎÑ Windows Server 2008.
Solution
To eliminate this problem, try one of solutions provided below. In case of success, you do not need to try other solutions.
  1. Check whether the PROMT NET server name specified in the Server Login window is correct.
  2. Clear the local DNS cache on the computer using the ipconfig/flushdns command and make sure that the DNS service returns a correct IP address for the PROMT NET server on the computer where the error occurs using the nslookup utility.
  3. In the Server Login window, specify the actual IP address of the PROMT NET server.
  4. Fulfill registration of the Service Principal Name for the account of the PROMT effective user for all PROMT DCOM-servers (only for ÎÑ Windows Server 2008).

    For this, type the following command in the command line (run it with the domain administrator's rights):

    setspn –A DCOM_server/Server_name Domain_name\Account_name

    where:
    • DCOM_server – PNETSvr, PrmtSvr, prmedsvr;
    • Server_name – name of the NetBIOS server where PROMT NET is installed;
    • Domain_name – name of the Active Directory domain;
    • Account_name – name of the account of the PROMT effective user.

    For example: setspn –A PrmtSvr/testserver promt\p9service

Problem
When launching a PROMT NET application, the following error message appears: "Error occurred while initializing the kernel of translation (0x80070776)".

Cause
Possible causes:
  • The DNS cache on the PROMT NET server contains an incorrect IP address for the client computer. This may be because of dynamic IP assignment using DHCP.
  • A problem with DNS and/or DHCP resulting in incorrect determination of the client IP address on the PROMT NET server.
  • DCOM is disabled on the client computer.
Solution
To eliminate this problem, try one of solutions provided below. In case of success, you do not need to try other solutions.
  1. Clear the local DNS cache on the PROMT NET server using the ipconfig/flushdns command and make sure that the DNS service returns a correct client IP address on the PROMT NET server using the nslookup utility.
  2. Clear the local DNS cache on the client computer using the ipconfig/flushdns command and make sure that the DNS service returns a correct IP address for the PROMT NET server to which you are connecting using the nslookup utility.
  3. Check DNS and DHCP service operation and make necessary changes if the client service setup contains an incorrect or different IP address.
  4. Enable DCOM on the client computer: open the Component Services (dcomcnfg.exe) and check the "Enable DCOM on this Computer" box in My Computer properties on the Default Properties tab.

Problem
When launching a PROMT NET application, the following error message appears: "Error occurred while initializing the kernel of translation (0x8000401A)".

Cause
The PROMT NET server process cannot be started on the server because of problems with PROMT NET server setup.
Possible causes:
  • Parameters of the PROMT NET effective user account are set incorrectly for PROMT NET DCOM servers on the Identity tab; for example, the password for the effective user account has been changed.
  • The PROMT NET effective user account is not included in the Guests local group on the PROMT NET server.
  • The PROMT NET effective user account has no permission to write to the folder specified by the TEMP environment variable on the PROMT NET server.
  • The PROMT NET effective user account has no "Log on as a batch job" permission in local policies on the PROMT NET server.
Solution
Repeat the complete setup of the PROMT NET server using the Server Setup utility (PNetConfig.exe) and ensure that correct information in entered on all utility screens. Pay particular attention to proper setting of the PROMT NET effective user account and password.

If the problem cannot be solved with the setup, try the solutions provided below. In case of success, you do not need to try other solutions.
  1. Open the Component Services (dcomcnfg.exe) on the PROMT NET server and check the settings of PROMT NET DCOM servers:
    • PrmtSvr
    • PNETSvr
    • Prmedsvr
    • PrmtDDB
    • PitmSvr
        On the Identity tab, "This user" must be selected and the PROMT NET effective user domain account with the correct password must be specified.
        On the Security tab in the "Launch and Activation Permissions" and Access Permissions groups, local and remote startup, activation, and access must be allowed for all PROMT NET users, as well as for the predefined SYSTEM and INTERACTIVE system users, and for the PROMT NET effective user.
  2. Check whether the PROMT NET effective user account is added to the Guests group on the PROMT NET server.
  3. Make sure that the PROMT NET effective user account has permissions to write to the folder specified by the TEMP environment variable on the PROMT NET server.
  4. Open the Local Security Policy on the PROMT NET server and make sure that the PROMT NET effective user account has the "Log on as a batch job" permission assigned.
  5. Make sure that all PROMT NET users, and also the PROMT NET effective user, are included in the DCOM Users local group on the PROMT NET server.
  6. Check other settings listed in the "Completing Server Setup (PROMT NET Config)" section of the PROMT NET Administrator's Guide.

Problem

When launching PROMT NET, the following error message appears: "You have no permission to access the PROMT NET server. Please contact the System Administrator".

Common cause

PROMT NET uses the Distributed COM (DCOM) protocol for communications between client workstations and the server. This error may be caused by incorrect DCOM settings on the server and/or workstations.

Cause 1

Users have no access to the server at the DCOM network protocol level. The PROMT NET server part had not been properly setup right after the installation or adding of new users/user groups in the User Manager application.

Solution 1
  1. Launch the Server Login application on the PROMT NET server.
  2. In step 2, add accounts for the users or user groups to permit access to the PROMT NET system.
  3. In step 3, check whether the PROMT NET effective user account and password are correct.


Cause 2

Incorrect DCOM settings on the PROMT NET server.

Solution 2

Check the DCOM settings on the PROMT NET server:

  1. Open the Component Service (dcomcnfg.exe) on the PROMT NET server.
  2. Check the settings of PROMT NET DCOM servers:
    • PNETSvr
    • prmedsvr
    • PrmtSvr
    • PrmtDDB (only for PROMT NET 7.0/8.0/8.5)
    • PitmSvr (only for PROMT NET 7.0)

    For each DCOM server, do the following:
      1. Open the Security tab and set the permissions:
        • Local access
        • Remote access
        • Start
        • Activation

        for the following accounts:
        • PROMT NET effective user
        • PROMT NET users
        • PROMT NET user groups

      2. Open the Identity tab and make sure that the PROMT NET effective user account is specified as the account to be used when starting the PROMT NET DCOM server.


Cause 3

Incorrect DCOM settings on the PROMT NET workstation.

Solution 3

Check the DCOM settings on the workstation:

  1. Open the Component Service (dcomcnfg.exe) on the PROMT NET server.
  2. In My Computer, open the Properties window:
      1. Open the Default Properties tab and set the values of the following parameters:
        • "Enable DCOM on this Computer" – enabled;
        • Authentication – Connect;
        • Impersonation – Identify.

      2. Open the Security tab and set the permissions:
        • Local access
        • Remote access
        • Start
        • Activation

        for the following accounts:
        • PROMT NET effective user
        • All group
        • Anonymous logon



Cause 4

The PROMT NET effective user account has no "Log on as a batch job" permission in the local policy on the PROMT NET server.

Solution 4
  1. Open the Local Security Policy (secpol.msc) on the PROMT NET server.
  2. Click Local Policies -> User Rights Assignment.
  3. Add the PROMT NET effective user account to the list of accounts of the "Logon as a batch job" policy.


Cause 5

The PROMT NET effective user account has no "Access this computer from the network" permission in the local policy on the PROMT NET workstation.

Solution 5
  1. Open the Local Security Policy (secpol.msc) on the PROMT NET workstation.
  2. Click Local Policies -> User Rights Assignment.
  3. Add the PROMT NET effective user account to the list of accounts of the "Access this computer from the network" policy.


Cause 6

On the PROMT NET server, a firewall is enabled that prevents operation of applications via the DCOM protocol.

Solution 6
In the firewall setup on the PROMT NET server, open the following ports:
  • TCP 135 (RPC service)
  • TCP 1024-65535 (for Windows Server 2000-2003), 49152-65535 (for Windows Server 2008)


Cause 7

On the PROMT NET workstation, a firewall is enabled that prevents operation of applications via the DCOM protocol.

Solution 7
In the firewall setup on the workstation, create the following exceptions (by the example of the standard Windows firewall):
  1. Open the 135 TCP port for outbound connections (the PROMT NET server address or server subnet address must be specified in the exception parameters).
  2. Create exceptions for all executable PROMT NET Client applications (exe files) by specifying the paths to the executable files.

The process includes several steps:

    • If the current lease period expired or expires in the next 15 days, launch any application and click Prolong in the "Prolong the subscription" window.
    • If the current lease period expires after the next 15 days, launch the Registration program: Start -> Programs -> PROMT -> Your PROMT 9 Product -> Launch Applications -> Registration.
  3. In the Registration dialog box, enter the new license number for the lease version of the product and click Prolong.

When you try to translate a PDF document, the indicator of the translation process reaches the middle, the process interrupts and appears the page of selecting the files.

Update the module for translating PDF-documents on the PTS server.
  1. Run iisreset /stop in the command line.
  2. Download the Pdf2If.zip archive.
  3. Extract the Pdf2If.dll file (version 9.0.10.0).
  4. Replace the Pdf2If.dll file in the folder with the installed translation module (for example, C:\Program Files\PRMT9\PRMTIF\Pdf2If.dll) with the updated version.
  5. Run iisreset /restart in the command line.
  6. Make sure that the process of translation of PDF-documents is correct.

  3. On the Recycling tab, deselect all checkboxes.
  4. On the Health tab, select all checkboxes, except for the Enable Pinging option.

  6. Select Web Sites -> Default Web Site.

  1. Launch Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager and select the Application Pools section.
  2. Select the DefaultAppPool application pool and open the Advanced Settings window.
  3. In the General section, set the True value for the "Enable 32-bit Applications" parameter.
  4. In the General section, set the Classic value for the Managed Pipeline Mode parameter.
  5. In the Process Model section, select the local built-in NetworkService account for the Identity parameter.
  6. In the Rapid-Fail Protection section, check that fault protection is disabled. The Enabled parameter must be set to False.
  7. Select Web Sites -> Default Web Site.
  8. Select the virtual directory of the application server. Open the IIS->Authentication section and check that only Windows Authentification is enabled.
  9. Select the virtual directory of the translation server. Open the IIS->Authentication section and check that only Anonymous Authentification is enabled.
  10. After you made the necessary changes, run the iisreset command.

To use PTS with the HTTPS secured protocol, you must have Internet Information Services 7 configured appropriately (supported on Windows Vista, 7, Server 2008/R2).

Solution

Proceed as follows:

  1. Launch Internet Information Services Manager, select the computer name and open Server Certificates in the IIS section.
  2. Create a new self-signed certificate. To do this, select Create Self-Signed Certificate from the menu.
  3. In the New Certificate Wizard, enter the name of the new certificate.
  4. Open the Web Sites -> Default Web Site section, select the default Web site and click Bindings in the menu.
  5. In the Bindings window, click Add. In settings that appear, select the https protocol type and the created certificate; do not change other settings.
  6. Open the Web Sites -> Default Web Site section, so that the PTS virtual directories are displayed.
  7. Select the application server virtual directory. In the IIS section, open the SSL Settings and select Require SSL.

Problem


After the PTS is installed, the following error messages occur when trying to access the application server web page:

  • Unable to open physical file (path to the DB file)... Login failed for user NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SYSTEM.
  • Failed to update database (path to the DB file) because the database is read-only.

Cause

Errors occur if the built-in local Network Service account under which the PTS web application pool operates does not have full access permissions for the PTS database directory and its contents.

Solution

To solve the problem, full access permissions to the PTS database directory and files for the Network Service shall be assigned.


The procedure is as follows:

  1. Open the application server directory (by default, %programfiles%\prmt9\PTS\ApplicationServer).
  2. Open the Properties->Security window for the App_Data and assign full access permissions to the local built-in Network Service account.
  3. Open the PTS database directory (by default, %programfiles%\prmt9\PTS\ApplicationServer\App_Data).
  4. Assign full access permissions to the local built-in Network Service account for the TWS.MDF and TWS_log.ldf files (similar to item 2)
  5. After you made the necessary changes, execute the iisreset command.

The PTS application server stores the information on users and translation servers in the special MS SQL Server database.
PTS supports the following versions of MS SQL Server:

  1. MS SQL Server 2005 (32- and 64-bit)
  2. MS SQL Server 2008 (R2) (32- and 64-bit)
  3. MS SQL Server 2005 Express (delivered with the PTS).

Solution:

To manage and setup connection to the PTS user database, use the Database tab of the PTS Application Server Setup application.

If MS SQL Server 2005 Express is used to store the PTS user database, it will be selected by default and no additional actions for connection setup will be required.

If MS SQL Server (supporting SQL Server Authentication) is used to store the PTS user database, you have to specify the database connection parameters.
The procedure is as follows:

  • On the Database tab of the PTS Application Server Setup application, select Microsoft SQL Server and click Edit. The Connection tab of the standard Properties for data communication window will open.
  • On step 1 - Select or enter the server name, enter the server name in the Computer_name\Database_name format or select the appropriate server from the list.
  • On step 2 - For the server access use:, select the provided name and password option and specify the user's account data; the user shall have necessary permissions to login to the SQL Server. Select the Permit to save the password checkbox.
  • On step 3, the following options are available:
  1. If you want to use an existing SQL Server PTS user database, select the Select the database on the server option.
  2. If no user database exists on the SQL Server, select the Attach the database file under the name -> Use the file name and specify the path to the database file as shown below:
    1. %programfiles%\PRMT9\PTS\ApplicationServer\App_Data\TWS.MDF (in case the MS SQL Server is on the same computer where PTS is installed)
    2. \\PTS_server_name\App_Data\TWS.MDF (if MS SQL Server runs on a separate computer, the %programfiles%\PRMT9\PTS\ApplicationServer\App_Data folder shall be shared – only for MS SQL Server 2008)
  • Test the database connection by clicking the Check connection button.

  1. Open the PTS application server web page.
  2. Depending on the linguistic object (profiles, dictionaries, TMs, XML translation rules) to be uploaded, select the appropriate option in the Translation Setup section.
  3. To upload profiles/dictionaries, in the "Operation with profile/dictionary" item, select "Load from Archive", specify the path to the archive file and click Load. To upload TMs/XML translation rules, simply enter the path to the archive file and click Load.

Method 2
Use the PTS Data Synchronization application included in the desktop version of PROMT Translator (PROMT LSP).
  1. Start the PTS Data Synchronization application.
  2. Specify the address of the application server’s web service in the following format: http://application server name/PTS application server virtual catalog/Services/PTService.asmx and click Set.
  3. Select the objects you wish to transfer in the left-side tree and click >>.
  4. Click the Start button and wait until the linguistic data synchronization is completed.

PTS does not support adding of user accounts directly from the Active Directory.
Adding of a large number of accounts to the PTS user database and subsequent adding of these accounts to the appropriate PTS group may require time-consuming configuration of the PTS system.

You can use the procedure to automate adding of user accounts from the Active Directory groups to the PTS user group.

Anonymous access does not require authorization and allows the user not to enter the necessary data when connecting to the PTS server; thus it facilitates user accounts control and administration.

If there are many PTS users, you can use the anonymous access option. The anonymous access option in the PTS product is defined by the license file, the licensing scheme of which shall support the unlimited number of the PTS users.

To improve PTS stability, initialization of linguistic data can be performed in the Read Only mode.
When using this mode, the following restrictions occur:

  • Editing of linguistic data via the PTS web interface is not available.
  • Synchronization of linguistic data using the PTS Data Synchronization application (PTSSync) is not available.
  • When several translation servers are used, synchronization of linguistic data between these servers is also unavailable.
To enable this mode, use the method described below:

Solution
In the configuration file of the translation server web application, the parameter for linguistic data initialization in the Read Only mode shall be added. To do this, change the appSettings section of the \ProgramFiles\PRMT9\PTS\TranslationServer\Web.config file, add the add key="InitReadonly" value="true" parameter, as shown below:



After the described changes are made, run the iisreset command.

If there are several translation servers, the above-described changes of the Web.config file shall be made on all servers.

PTS products provide the option to use several translation servers connected to a single application server. Several translation servers allow to use load balancing and fail-safety mechanisms of the PTS application server and to increase the speed of processing translation requests.

Sometimes, due to certain reasons, installation of additional translation servers on the selected physical/virtual servers is impossible, but a solution for PTS stability improvement is still required (for example, owing to high load of the translation server). In that case, if PTS license arrangement admit adding translation servers, a solution can be used which provides duplication of the translation server web application on the same server where the application and translation servers are installed.

Increasing the number of translation server web applications allows you to use load balancing and fail safety mechanisms of the application server, thus improving the PTS stability. Meanwhile, the overall performance is not increased, because a single translation core is used.

Problem
When trying to synchronize the PTS linguistic data with the PROMT Desktop Translator using the PTS Data Synchronization application, the following error occurs: "Failed to connect to the Web service."

Cause 1
The PTS server and the PROMT Desktop Translator are in the same domain, but there is no such user account in the PTS user database.

Solution 1
Add the user account to the PTS user database.

Cause 2
The PTS server and the PROMT Desktop Translator are not in the same domain.

Solution 2
  1. Enter the user's account data (DOMAINNAME, UserName and PASSWORD) for the user that starts the PTS Data Synchronization application. To do this, change the usersettings section of the \ProgramFiles\PRMT9\PTSSYNC\PTSsync.exe.config file using Notepad:
