PROMT Translator won first place in the competition of machine translation systems
PROMT, the leading Russian developer of linguistic IT solutions for enterprise-level clients and private users, announces another victory of PROMT translation technology in the international competition of machine translation systems.
The Association for Computational Linguistics has been holding a contest among machine translation systems developers in the frame of the Workshop on Statistical Machine Translation already for several years.
The competition involves university laboratories from all over the world (
This year, as well as the previous one, 143 systems from 23 organizations participated in the contest. Language pairs and their quantity vary from year to year, but as a rule, translations from English into French, Spanish, and German and vice versa take part in the competition. The English-German language pair became the leader among the systems presented this year, 18 systems altogether. In 2013 for the first time the competition included Russian language.
In addition to the automatic estimation of the translation quality some experts are also involved. Their task is to rank machine translations of different systems, depending on the quality. All translations are anonymous, hence the experts don’t know, what system created the translations.
This year the PROMT technology for the second time running was recognized as the best one for English-Russian translation.
