St. Petersburg, Russia, August 21, 2003 - PROMT, the leading provider of machine translation technologies, announced today the release of new version of Internet translation solution PROMT Internet Translation Server 4.0.

Universality of Internet allows site owners to address to the wide client audience and to contact with customers from any point of globe where there is an access to Internet. For a site to be productive it should talk with its visitors in their native language. According to LISA 24 % of sites provide content in one language, 25 % of sites contain content in 2 languages, and the content of 35 % of sites is presented in 5 or more languages (fig. 1).

Other figure is much more interesting - more than 49 % of sites plan to provide content in 5 or more number of languages (fig. 2).

Internet translation solution PITS 4 is the most effective tool for providing a site text content in foreign languages. Due to use PITS 4 content of a site can be translated to foreign language directly in online mode.

New, fourth version of PITS benefits users with the following advantages in comparison with the previous version:

  • Better translation accuracy. PITS 4 uses new translation technology PROMT XT with new dictionary architecture. As a result PITS 4 translates better than previous version and also offers more flexible opportunities of adjustment. Earlier the dictionary base with which the translation system works was one-dimensional and had limited opportunities of system adjustment. The new dictionary architecture is multidimensional. Due to the new architecture @promt dictionaries are capable to store unlimited number of translation variants along with a bulk of grammatical information similar to traditional electronic dictionaries. As a result the topic adjustment in @promt may be conducted by simple checking in a dictionary the active translation (or translations) for the given text to be translated.
  • High stability. In PITS 4 the engine architecture has completely changed. Now PITS 4 controls all aspects of translation process: monitor the system, traces errors in translation engine and adequately reacts to them in an automatic mode. The system also traces the quantity of consumed resources and reveals translation flows which for a long time do not return control. PITS 4 could carry out blocking and relaunching such processes if necessary, and also may relaunch the translation server completely. As a result PITS 4 stability has increased by more than ten times. Now PITS 4 performs at least 1,500,000 translations before any system failure could occur.
  • MicrosoftR Windows Server 2003 support. Now PITS support the new Microsoft's server platform along with the previous MicrosoftR Windows Server 2000.
